To enter the tournament a player must join the CivPBEML Yahoo! group and post a message to the group indicating their desire to play. The first round pairings will be announced January 12th. If there are an odd number of players entered at that time, the last player to enter will not be paired that weekend. New entries will be accepted until the second round pairing are announced during the first weekend of February 2010. The first late entry will be paired with an "odd" player, if there was one. Subsequent late entries will be paired in the order they enter.
If a player leaves the Yahoo! group during the tournament, he or she will be removed from the tournament.

Civ4: Beyond The Sword v3.19 Standard Un-modified Rules Four players, all Random, Monarch: Player 1: Human Player 2: AI Player 3: Human Player 4: AI Map: Pangaea Size: Small Climate: Temperate Sealevel: Medium Era: Classical (Advanced Start 700 pts) Speed: Quick Shoreline: Natural World Wrap: Toroidal Resources: Balanced No options checked All victories checked Game turn limit: 0 City elimination limit: 0
There must be at least eight players participating in this tournament and the number of players must be even. There will be seven rounds of games. The first round's pairings will be made randomly. The pairings for each subsequent round will be determined by matching players with similar records whom haven't already played in the tournament. Each round of games will begin on the first weekend of the month and there are no time limits for completing the games.
When a player achieves a victory condition or their opponent resigns the game, the winning player posts a message to the list describing the victory. If the AI achieves a victory condition then the human players receive credit for a proportional win based on the formula P1/(P1+P2) where P1 is the score of the player and P2 is the score of his opponent. The proportional win values are added to the wins to determine the total wins in the tournament.
The player with the most wins after seven games will be declared champion. If more than one player has the same number of wins then the champion will be determined by whomever has the best won-loss record amongst the tied players. If the tied players did not play each other, then an eighth round of games will be played to determine the champion.
If a player withdraws from the tournament a replacement will be sought to start new games against the withdrawing player's opponents.
If a player does not respond to a move within one week, his or her opponent should post a message to the list and if the player does not reply within three days, he or she will be removed from the tournament and a replacement sought to start new games against the affected opponents.
If both players are members of the ladder competition then the LCMT game also counts as a ladder game unless the game resulted in an AI victory.
